This programme is about developing the necessary skills as business owner, which in turn will provide your business with solid foundations. While many small business owners have an abundance of passion, they often lack practical business skills.

What is Up-skill Your Business Programme about?

When you own a small business, you have to take on many of the day-to-day responsibilities yourself—at least in the beginning. Having some basic knowledge across all aspects of business operations can go a long way to making your business flourish, and ultimately turn you into a more well-rounded manager when you do eventually hire staff, and expand your market share. This opportunity will allow you to educate yourself through mini courses, online or otherwise.

Up-skills Training may include

Skills training may include any of the following but limited to: financial management (accounting); marketing, sales and customer service; communication and negotiation; project management and planning; business certification and more. Note: NO DEGREES of DIPLOMAS.

Basic business skills that are essential for an SMME

1.    Financial management (accounting)

Being able to effectively manage your finances is critical. You will need to be able to forecast your cash flow and sales, as well as, monitor your profit and loss. You will also need to declare your income to SARS.

Having sound financial management skills will help you to run your business profitably and protect your financial investment.

2.    Marketing, sales and customer service

It is important to be able to promote your products or services effectively. Providing good customer service and having a marketing strategy in place will help you to generate sales.

3.    Communication and negotiation

You will need to communicate and negotiate with your suppliers, potential investors, customers and employees. Having effective written and verbal communication skills will help you to build good working relationships. Every communication should reflect the image you are trying to project.

 4.    Leadership

If you employ people, leadership will be a key skill. You must be able to motivate your staff in order to get the best out of them and improve productivity. Allocate time to mentor and coach your employees.

5.    Project management and planning

Starting a business means you will have to manage a range of projects, such as setting up a website, arranging the fit-out of your premises and developing a range of policies and procedures. Knowing how to effectively manage your resources, including time, money and staff will help you to achieve your goals.

6.    Delegation and time management

Building good relationships through networking will help you to grow your business and give you the support you’ll need.

However much you plan, you will encounter problems in your business. This means you need to be able to make good decisions, sometimes under pressure.

Vaardigheidsopleiding kan in enige van die volgende kortkursusse insluit, maar nie beperk tot: finansiële bestuur (rekenkunde); e-bemarking, verkope en kliëntediens; kommunikasie en onderhandeling; projekbestuur en beplanning, besigheidssertifisering en meer. Let wel: GEEN GRADE of DIPLOMAS nie.

Basiese besigheidsvaardighede wat noodsaaklik is vir 'n KMMO

1. Finansiële bestuur (rekeningkunde)
Dit is van kritieke belang om jou finansies doeltreffend te kan bestuur. U sal moet kontantvloei en verkope moet kan voorspel, asook die winste en verliese moet monitor. U sal ook die besigheid se inkomste by SARS moet verklaar. Om oor goeie finansiële bestuursvaardighede te beskik, sal u help om u besigheid winsgewend te bestuur asook die finansiële belegging te beskerm.

2. Bemarking, verkope en kliëntediens
Dit is belangrik om u produkte of dienste effektief te kan bevorder. Om goeie kliëntediens te verskaf en ‘n bemarkingstrategie in plek te hê, sal u help om verkope te genereer.

3. Kommunikasie en onderhandeling
U sal met jou verskaffers, potensiële beleggers, kliënte en werknemers moet kommunikeer en onderhandel. Om effektiewe geskrewe en mondelinge kommunikasievaardighede te hê, sal u help om goeie werksverhoudings te bou. Elke kommunikasie moet die beeld weerspieël wat u probeer projekteer.

4. Leierskap
As u mense in diens gaan neem, sal leierskap ‘n sleutelvaardigheid moet wees. U moet personeel kan motiveer om die beste uit hulle te haal en hul produktiwiteit te verbeter. Ken tyd toe om u werknemers te mentor en af te rig.

5. Projekbestuur en beplanning
Om ‘n besigheid te begin beteken dat u ‘n reeks projekte sal moet bestuur, soos die opstel van ‘n webwerf, die inrigting van u perseel te reël en ‘n reeks beleide en prosedures te ontwikkel vir die besigheid. Om te weet hoe om u hulpbronne effektief te bestuur, insluitend tyd, geld en personeel, sal u help om u doelwitte te bereik.

6. Delegering en tydsbestuur
Om goeie verhoudings deur middel van netwerke te bou, sal u help om jou besigheid te laat groei en u die ondersteuning te gee wat benodig word. Oorweeg om by ‘n bedryfs- of sakevereniging aan te sluit om u netwerk te laat groei.

7. Probleemoplossing
Hoe baie daar ook al beplan word, gaan u probleme in die besigheid teëkom. Dit beteken u moet goeie besluite moet kan neem, soms onder druk.

Om goeie verhoudings deur middel van netwerke te bou, sal u help om die besigheid te laat groei en jou die ondersteuning te gee wat jy nodig het.
